Baidu (BIDU)
Dec.31: 12:04 PM Credit Suisse is becoming even more bearish on Baidu (BIDU +0.9%), lowering its PT to $80 from $82 while reiterating an Underperform. The firm is worried Baidu will use the proceeds from its $1.5B debt offering to embark on a “costly and risky” M&A strategy. It views security software vendor/Qihoo rival Kingsoft, mobile browser developer UCWeb (already the subject of M&A rumors), and even Sina Weibo as possible targets. Qihoo (QIHU +5.3%) is making new 52-week highs today.
Intel (INTC)
Dec.31: 9:58 AM Is this is a sign estimates for PC chipmakers might finally be bottoming? Wells Fargo has actually raised its numbers for Intel (INTC) this morning, citing growing server CPU sales. One analyst after another has slashed estimates on Intel (not to mention Nvidia, AMD, etc.) this quarter.
Johnson & Johnson (JNJ)
Dec.31: 9:41 AM The FDA OKs J&J’s (JNJ -0.2%) Sirturo drug for treating tuberculosis in patients who don’t respond to other medicines. Sirturo is the first drug in four decades to fight TB using a new mechanism – the treatment blocks an enzyme that’s vital for the survival of TB bacteria. The FDA authorization comes after only Phase II of trials – J&J is due to start Phase III in Q1 2013 – and despite more patients dying than with other drugs.
