In NY, the DJIA (+15.96 +0.14% to 11532.88), S&P 500 (-2.60 -0.20% to 1274.98), and the NASDAQ Composite (-15.51 -0.66% to 2333.73) were mixed as traders were waiting for direction today from the ECB and BoE.

Commodity prices remained a tad weak; Crude Oil ($WTIC) dropped -$0.36/bbl to 109.35 and $GOLD dropped -$2.30/oz to 808.20. Intra-day levels were lower.

The commodity-biased Canadian markets were soft; the Toronto Composite dropped -162 -1.22% to 13177.72, and the Toronto Venture Board closed down -2.84% to 1874.9. Tech (XLK -1.3%) and Utilities (XLU -1.6%) were weakest. The Semi-conductors ($SOX -4.2%) and Goldminers ($XAU -3.5%) were the weakest industry groups. Chip-maker Intel (INTC -4.6%) burned.

For the extreme Cara 100 stocks, where the volumes did rise again, there were nine of the 100 that hit intra-day lows yesterday. MICC was down -3.9% to a low of $75.49 on big volume. So too were the goldminers, like ABX and some other telcos. The winners were SWK +3.6%, WFMI +3.0%, KSS +2.8% and JCP +2.5%. The losers were SLW -5.3%, CEO -4.8%, ABX -4.6% and GG -4.3%, in addition to INTC.

The US long bond lifted higher again ($USB +0.39% to 119.45) as traders continue to flee to safe havens. The yield on the US T-Bill did manage a small gain to 1.665.

Earlier today, the Asia-Pacific stocks: Australia (-1.55% to 5050.9), Shanghai (flat at 2277.4), Hong Kong (-0.95% to 20389.5), Japan (-1.04% to 12557.7) and India (-1.00% to 14899.1) were weak.

In European trading at this point (9:06am ET), the French CAC and German DAX are down -0.96% and -1.31% respectively, while the UK FTSE is up +0.10%.

In open futures at 9:00am ET, the Sept Euro (falling -0.20% to 1.4455), Oct Crude Oil (up +$0.41/bbl to 109.76), and Sept DJIA (-63 to 11478) are down, while the Sept $USD is stronger (+0.15% at 78.285.

In the cash (spot) precious metals market prices are a bit stronger, at 8:46am ET: gold is 809.75, palladium at 286, platinum at 1404, and silver at 13.09.
