On Friday, the DJIA (-7.90 -0.06% to 12,638.32), S&P 500 (+2.12 +0.15% to 1400.38), and NASDAQ Composite (+14.34 +0.57% to 2522.66) were mixed. Energy (XLE +1.0%) was strongest and Financials (XLF -1.3%) the weakest.

The Cara 100 winners on the day were: INFY +8.3%, DELL +5.7%, CTSH +5.3% and CHA +5.0%. The losers were: DB -6.1% and UBS -3.6%.

Goldminer stocks ($XAU +2.2%) (after the prior day’s loss of -4.1%) and Semi-conductors ($SOX +2.1%) were the strongest of the industry groups. Yesterday’s losers were Airlines ($XAL -1.4%) and Banks ($BKX -1.3%).

On the macro-economic front, April personal income in the US was relatively strong +0.2% as expected but spending at +0.2% was weaker than expected. The Reuters/University of Michigan Consumer sentiment index continued its southward journey, hitting a 28-year low.

On the corporate mergers and acquisitions front, United Airlines (UAL) said a deal with Continental Airlines (CAL) is near, ending talks with US Airways (LCC).

After an opening move to the downside, the Crude Oil price ($WTIC) closed up +$0.73/bbl to 127.35. $GOLD gained $9.80/oz to 891.50.

The SEC has released the Proposed Rule on Interactive Data to Improve Financial Reporting. Please see my notes in the Community Chat, where I hope to see some Discourse on the topic.

Traders are slightly bullish in the equity market, but the last three days seems to have taken on a “contrived” appearance.

I’ll work on the Week In Review tomorrow, but the lifestyle/weather in the Bahamas is hindering my concentration.
