Boeing reported 1Q net income rose +38% from strong orders for commercial and defense aircraft.

I’ll break from routine here and remind readers that when yesterday Cara 100 Boeing traded up to 83.36, it was a gain of +8.4% since the March 13 Buy Alert that my simple system gave you at $74.14. On that date, the M-W-D RSI-7 closed at 26.86/31.78/29.91. Yesterday was: 42.4/59.1/76.1.

The Techs (XLK +0.63%) and Consumer Staples (XLP +0.65%) led the come-back, while Basic Materials (XLB -1.57%) were the losers. The materials heavy Toronto Exchange lost -196 points (-1.38%) to close at 14070.

After the close, Yahoo (YHOO) barely topped expectations, earning $0.37/share.

Crude Oil futures ($WTIC) closed up a bit (+$0.23/bbl) to 118.30 after the bigger-than-expected draw in crude stockpiles. The US Department of Energy reported crude stockpiles climbed 2.4 million barrels, while gasoline stockpiles fell 3.2 million barrels, and distillates declined by 1.4 million barrels.

The $USD closed sharply higher (+0.70%) to 71.82 after the Euro bounced off an extreme peak of $1.60, closing down -0.64% to 1.5886.

$GOLD dropped -$16.20/oz to 909.00 and looks like it is now headed significantly lower.

This morning at 7:45am ET, the spot prices for gold, palladium, platinum and silver are soft at 902.08, 437.5, 1987.5 and 17.09. The USD is strong, and the June Euro is down to 1.5713. What I projected yesterday for a significant trend reversal seems to be occurring.

June Crude futures are down to 117.45 and the DJIA futures to 12700.

Comments & Outlook

Three of the top four Cara 100 stocks yesterday were PetroChina (PTR +8.3%), China Telecom (CHA +6.1%) and China Mobil (CHL +5.6%), brought to you courtesy of the People’s Republic of China. I commented in the Discourse last evening:

For all those who don't think that Interventionists have a serious impact on supposedly free market prices, let this WSJ story tonight be the nail in the coffin:

(WSJ) "Anticipation of Beijing slashing a tax on stock transactions was credited with contributing to a 4.1% surge Wednesday in the Shanghai Composite Index, which has shed about half its value in the past six months. After the market closed, the government cut the tax from 0.3% to 0.1% -- where it was about a year ago when Beijing raised it to stem stock speculation by individual investors, who comprise the bulk of China's stock market."

Seriously, you hear Talking Heads talk about "free" markets and "level playing fields"; so I say to you, wake up and smell the napalm.
