The DJIA (-0.88% to 12422.8), S&P 500 (-0.88% to 1341) and Nasdaq Composite (--0.71%) to 2324 all lost ground.

After the bell, Oracle reported strong results but missed revenue guidance. ORCL plunged -8.0% to 19.26. On the deals front, Ford Motor (F) announced the sale of Jaguar and Land Rover luxury brands to Tata Motors (TTM) for $2.3 billion.

Comments & Outlook

Not surprisingly, in the final months of the Bush Administration, Treasury Secretary Paulson is attempting to hijack control of the People's Treasury and SEC securities regulation of investment banks in favor of the Wall Street-controlled Federal Reserve Bank under Bernanke. Five Fed Heads will be doing a dog and pony show today that will be well covered in the media.

I believe Washington will square off, demanding answers as to what's happening in the boardrooms of Paulson, Bernanke and Friends. Senator Charles Grassley (R), on Bloomberg last evening, showed just how clueless Washington is to the nation's financial system. Could somebody please post a link to that video. Thank you.

I'm not feeling too well today having dental freezing late in the afternoon yesterday, so I will not continue this report.

Oh yes, yesterday I think I commented about being surprised at the projected growth rates of Google (GOOG), which were notably much slower than I believe most traders perceive them to be. Caution here. The slowdown of the economy is upon us.

Addendum: The Buy/Sell Alert table below includes Lehman Bros (LEH). That's a mistake. Apparently my right hand doesn't know what the left one is up to. I cut LEH from the Cara 100 when Bear Stearns went under water, fearing that weak banks like Lehman might possibly not recover in this cycle. Not being totally comfortable with Lehman, I rejected it from the Cara 100.
