Cara's Daily Report and Commentary, Thurs., Nov 8, 2007
Bear with me as once again I find myself completely in the dark. Oh oh, call out the pun police.
As this report is late due to having no connectivity for well over 4 hours, I’ll skip the usual market recap other than to say that yesterday the USD hit a new all-time low against the Euro, British Pound and Canadian Loonie.
The Toronto Star headline today reads, “Loonie’s rise signals end of American era”.
Getting back to reality, the falling $USD index has caused precious metals prices to soar. But, arguably for the first time, the Equity Market Bulls have turned weak-kneed.
Credit market worries and speculation among commodity and equity traders, particularly in the Asia-Pacific and Emerging Market countries, are now at the forefront of our thinking.
This morning at 7:00am ET (1200 GMT) the Bank of England released their monetary policy decision. Forty-five minutes later, the European Central Bank did the same. Prof. Bernanke of the US Fed will be speaking today. The focus, then, continues to be on international interest rates and currency flows, and looking for signs of co-operation among G-7 central bankers to avert a global currency crisis.
I don’t agree with the “end of the empire” hyperbole (although I tend to use it myself sometimes), but clearly there is a crisis in global currency markets. As open-minded traders know, crisis equals opportunity.
The problem, as I see it, is that the vast majority of traders are not day traders, and the capital markets presently are working with inflamed emotions and hot money that is moving too swiftly for proper long-term decision-making.
So, the options are to get with the day trading program or go to cash.

Wrap up:
With over 250 responses in the Discourse section of the Community Chat in 24 hours, your enthusiasm for capital markets is palpable. And your sense of humor, during a day that can best be summed up as challenging for the Bulls, reminds me of the usual chatter on professional trading desks, although somewhat better mannered.
This development is encouraging to me because I think it means that you are now seeing all sides of the market, not just the usual retail account perma-bull perspective.
Again, your willingness to share your time and your knowledge has been terrific. We agree, I think, that participating in this community holds a key to our individual trading success.
Have a great day, stay connected (if your telecom utility permits it) and hold that thought.
