Thank You Bill, I hope your weekend is going as planned.
I couldn't help noticing that if holding the top one or two Cara 100 gainers of each group for last week, a person could have about a YEAR's average returns of the S&P. GM and INTC had 11%+ W/W returns and averaged with the top W/W gainers would pretty easily beat the S&P. Most of the others beat any treasury note handily.
Looks like we're on the edge again according to Colin Twiggs report for the U.S. indexes, but poised for another Hang Seng breakout. Cash flows are pretty obvious. Next week should be interesting....maybe we get some mergers on Monday to goose it again, or....stuff like the above post happens. Yikes.
The new header and downscaled charts load faster.
I like it.
Enjoy!

The new picture of you needs to be changed. You look worried. You are supposed to be happy and smiling. You look like a man whose daughter just announced she is dating a motorcycle gang member.

Just being a proud uncle,
little announcement,
my niece just graduated from Columbia, financial engineering, and got a job with RBC,
analyst oil and gas. These young kids. All a mystery to me. I guess it's more about algorithms than carbon. Shucks, and girls ware not supposed to be innately blessed with an aptitude for math? Anyone know how long "analysts" typically stay with a financial institution, particularly when it's their first time out?

Re Trader;
Only nine years ago Bear was in Merrill's position issuing margin calls for LTCM. Funny how history has a way of repeating itself. Interesting name for the fund; High-Grade Structured Credit Strategies Enhanced Leverage Fund.

trader,
That's my real hair btw -- that is, what's left of it after this past five months. I looked at the 20 photos that the pro snapped and said to myself that the others looked like poses, and this is the one I most feel like.
When I am ready to smile, I'll change the photo.

maxhubris,
You are probably right about the "eye". I'll look into the change possibility next week.
btw, I removed the "man" because many of you wanted it gone, but I cannot recall readers mentioning the "eye".

The photo can be changed anytime. Right now an expression of concerned skepticism resonates with me.

I always thought that Pope John Paul II was a handsome man. And, yes, you do resemble him a bit, but I doubt that the reason is the fact that JPII's Canadian photographer also took your picture....
I agree with 2nd_ave: an expression of concerned skepticism on your face is fine. Worry would be fine too!
As for the "eye": it didn't bother me...until maxhubris mentioned it. Now it bothers me.
All in all, your blog is looking very nice -- uncluttered and easy to navigate. Thumbs up!

Subprime fund on the brink. Concerned that an internal hedge fund at Bear Stearns Cos. wouldn't be able to meet a margin call, Merrill Lynch & Co., one of the fund's biggest lenders, seized $400 million of its assets and is preparing to auction them off.
The fund borrowed over 6 billion seems their bets are not going to pay off and the fund will fail. Is this the beginning of the end to others in the same boat we will have to wait.
