Deep value in HSBC bank, Tues., Oct. 10, 2006, 10:32 AM
Several years ago on Chinese New Year's Eve I flew from Hong Kong to London, with a stop in Bahrain in the Persian Gulf. My seatmate was Sir John Bond, Chairman at HSBC, which is the alphabet soup reduction of Hong Kong & Shanghai Banking Corp.
Later, in Bahamas, I became an HSBC correspondent. I like the company; it's a Cara 100 bank with a $208 billion market cap.
Morgan Stanley rated HSBC as the 8th deepest value global bank in their Oct 4 screen for such things. They also reported on the company, but the report I have is dated Aug 1, 2006. Download Aug 1 MS report on HSBC.
So, if you are a value-seeker, you might wish to look into HSBC.

I wonder why one of the fastest growing bank ICICI from India has been left out?
Even bigger surprise is to see Barclays on top, despite their growth areas primarily being investment banking and not retail customer growth. Investment banking earnings will suffer badly when Bills near term prediction comes true.

ICICI was at least considered but unfortunately didn't make the cut as one of the best value top 10
What is more surprising to me is that no Canadian Bank was reviewed.... not even the Cara 100 RY!
Unless I missed something MS is obviously in a different World!

Price oscillators pointing towards limited upside from here (overbought). I will wait for price weakness, thank you very much.
