A view from an Econ Darth Vader, Mon., Oct. 30, 2006, 5:40 PM

Now and then there is a major Wall Street wirehouse research department that seems to be firing on all cylinders. As I see it, Merrill Lynch's David Rosenberg is one economist doing a terrific job.

Maybe I'm looking for a Darth Vader type and Rosenberg seems to fit the bill? Maybe I'm just looking for objectivity and have had my fill of the Goldilocks crowd? Whatever.

But after Elevina Tainer departed Econoday, I have been searching for a source of economic research that doesn't see the world through rose-colored glasses, and Rosenberg does tell it straight up.

Here are four reports his department issued Friday and today. If you like them, I'll continue. I could also give you Stephen Roach from Morgan Stanley, but let's just say I don't want to take the time to upload it. He doesn't connect at all with me.

As to MS, I really like the work of Wiktor Bielski in the Metals and Mining area. I could say that I find him more down to earth than Roach, but then you'd say that was a pun.

Here's Rosenberg. Enjoy.

Discourse

My first post -- have been lurking for many months.

Rosenberg really seems solid to me and I hope that you continue posting his stuff.

Thanks for a great blog. I particularly appreciate that you are concerned not only with investing but also with social equity.

Yes, keep posting Rosenberg's "Market Economist",it is very insightful.

You might also want to look at Goldman's "Pocket Chartroom" which is a monthly.
