Time for a break, Wed., June 28, 2006, 9:29 AM
On this day 37 years ago I married Patricia Stefaniak. Marriage remains to this day a wonderful experience.
This year we will celebrate (i) tonight with champagne, (ii) tomorrow out shopping and dinner, and this weekend at a Yorkville area hotel and restaurants.
If you are going to push hard, you have to also take time off, which for me is to chill for a few days.
A week Sunday, I will be going to Bahamas on a business trip (really), and Pat, at the last minute, said she cannot get away from the office. So I ask, should the office be in Toronto or in Bahamas? Hmmm.
The last few days have been consumed by my reading legal stuff. Now that's work! I am rapidly burning out.
For me, trading and blogging is not work, but I do admit that I need a clear head for the thoughts and actions to come freely. Legal stuff just grinds me down, which is partly the reason I haven't been blogging so much recently.
Yes, when I have only market stuff on my mind, I can easily blog from 12 to 18 times a day.
To me trading is not working like say negotiating deals, treating patients, and so forth, but then that's me. To deal-makers and doctors, I'm sure many have the same level passion at doing what they do as I do in trading and blogging.
But, for sure, deal-makers and doctors and others who are similarly engaged in a full-time career are limited in the time and privacy needed to focus just on trading.
I have thought about that as I had to spend so much time on legal stuff, and I thought of it when I thought about marriage. You need to focus on the principles of success, which means you need to focus.
If you can focus on something that makes you happy, then you can focus on something you'll never call work. That's not to say we all don't need time to chill.
Btw, ROBTV's Howard Green is interviewing Biovail's founder/chairman Eugene Melnyk as I write. This is TV journalism excellence and can be seen on Replay. The subject of blood infractionation and Hemosol also came up.

Congratulations to you and your wife. That is an amazing milestone.
I will have to watch the Hemosol comments - I still own their stock unfortunately, and the commission to sell it would cost me more than it's now worth.
Somebody please buy that $100 million dollar plant next to the golf course and distribute the money to the shareholders or something, and maybe I'll have enough money left to pay for greens fees....
Congratulations! I hope you and your wife enjoy your anniversary.
Thanks again for all your hard work.

The one really useful thing I've figured out about this marriage thing is that it isn't intended to be perfect. One is in for a grave disappointment if perfection is the expectation.
