Small world getting smaller, Wed., June 7, 2006, 11:21 AM
This blog has had 600,000 hits over the past three days. I thought I'd show where they come from " at least the first two dozen of the 140 countries that tune in.
An interesting observation is that my mail, and even the comments to this blog, take no political stance with or against the U.S., regardless of the country of residence of the reader.
As I see it, we're all in this thing together, just trying to make better decisions and improve the portfolio performance.
Red or blue, yellow or brown, black or white, we are color blind when it comes to capital markets. There is hope, after all, for society.
But Guam at number 15; I still don't get it. You guys must be glued to your PC's.

Bill, my first thought was the same as yours regarding Guam. A thought - doesn't the US maintain a heavy military presence in Guam and could it be coming from that?

Actually, I think the truth is that this blog is affected by the Law of Small Numbers. For all my enthusiasm that the numbers are huge, they are actually pretty small, and when a place like Guam brings a cadre of readers and supporters, their numbers start to show up on the radar.
As the blog numbers grow, of course, Guam cannot hope to keep up with India despite my encouragement and their good intentions. :-)
The web stats show that there are unique visitors etc, and even my archives got into discussions with readers from Guam. You may recall my "Hafa Adai from Guam".

This just goes to show for the 100th time that when I write something tongue-in-cheek, I should insert a smiley.
But the trouble is, in doing so, I'd have a page full of smiley's.

Bill,
You said "But Guam at number 15; I still don't get it. You guys must be glued to your PC's."
If you're counting hits, as opposed to actual visitors it's likely that all those Guam-based hits are from a bot (spam bot, a legit search engine indexer) or something similar. hits vs. pageviews vs. unique visitors tell very different stories
