Fortuna Silver Mines - Peruvian Election, , Tues., June 6, 2006, 1:24 PM
You remember the silver bar my wife won in a business card draw (using mine) at PDAC this year. That was from Fortuna Silver Mines. Today they sent some more good news. Time to revisit Mr. Peru.
"We wanted to draw your attention to the run off election results from Peru. As of June 6, 2006, Alan Garcia of the APRA Party, has won the election with Ollanta Humala conceding.Fortuna Silver Mines is very pleased with the outcome of the election, as we head to production this year, we continue to look forward to a long and prosperous future in Peru."

You know, sometimes it pays to call these companies and ask about things like country risk.

About IVN, the profit tax seems to have passed - there was no presidential veto. Just wondering what are its chances now. Anybody?

With 45 seats, Humala's Union for Peru Party will have the largest legislative bloc to only 35 for Garcia's APRA party. I can't believe Fortuna Silver Mines' Board views this as sufficiently stable for long term investment even though they may have to take the risk to show support for Garcia.
