A student's workshop in uranium, Monday, June 26, 2006, 11:30 PM
I am a believer that uranium is needed as a major energy source. Here is a link to a book on the subject that may be all you need to know, and then some.
Today, the promoter for Wealth Minerals contacted me to follow up a meeting I had at PDAC. They are prospecting for uranium in Argentina and Peru, and appear to have a reasonable shot. They raised a fair bit of money this week for such a small company, and one of their directors is Jerry Pogue who is an old friend from the 1980's.
In the entire world, Jerry was probably in the top six retail brokers in speculative gold prospectors at that time. I don't know much about Wealth Minerals " I couldn't even find the name of a Pres/CEO on their website -- but I do know that sometimes the hours of homework on a subject like the uranium book can be made a bit more enjoyable if you punt a few bucks on these "penny dreadfuls".
Look at it like its all part of the education. The thing to do is to contact the company and ask them for all the research they can provide, and get into the game.
If not this one, there are probably 100 more like it (uranium prospectors) in Vancouver. But you have to start somewhere.
And while you are at it, try to learn a little about stock promotion, which is the name of the game.
In my case, there is a long-forgotten, out-of-print book from the 1950's or 60's by (I think the name is) Ivan Schaeffer (spelling approx.) that taught me in my teens so much about the subject of stock promotion.
I lost my copy long ago and can't even remember the name of it. There were probably 1000 or so copies published, but starting tomorrow I'm going in search of it, and if I find it (maybe somebody remembers it from 40 0r 50 years ago and can help), then I intend to do a re-write.
It was that good.
UPDATE: Less than an hour later, "Bob" found this citation:

Interesting that during this time I attended McMaster University (night school program), where I earned my MBA. That's not where I read the book though, or lost it. :-)
But I probably learned as much in that book as I did in getting the MBA. Well, not really; but the book was an eye opener -- and a very accurate portrayal of the "stock promotion business".
Salvatore ("smess") found this citation at the National Library of Canada, for which I am thankful.

My associate Tony Garson is looking in his files for a copy. Eventually, I will find one.

Julie,
Please accept my sincerest apologies.
I shall rectify this matter immediately, as well as explain the situation to my readers.
Respectfully,
/Bill Cara
Dear readers: I happen to think the Internet is a wonderful tool, and occasionally I go overboard in my enthusiasm to reproduce (without prior approval) the work of others because I believe that doing so helps benefit society. However, it is not my right, or anybody's right to illegally post.
If we want the Internet to remain free, we must use self-discipline in our use of it. We must repect the copyright of others. In this particular case, the copyright was clearly marked. Had I taken the time to look for it and see it, I would not have uploaded my own copy.
Ignorance and haste is not a defense. So it behooves you, as my "editorial board" -- and I know many of you are lawyers -- to put the clamps on me if, as and when this type of activity might be happening.
I greatly respect intellectual property, and intend no ill-will to StockInterview.com or anyone.
Sincerely,
/Bill

There are three copies of the Shaffer book in the National Library of Canada, apparently:

Hi Bill,
Have it in front of me here: the stock promotion business: The inside story of Canadian mining deals and the people behind them (c) 1967 publishers McLelland & Stewart
Original cover price $2.50, inside cover $1.50, I think I paid a dime for it a couple of years ago.
They don't make books like this anymore. :) Goes well with the 1974 book I bought a few months ago, YOU CAN PROFIT FROM A MONETARY CRISIS, by Harry Browne.
Harry's answer is Swiss Francs & coins. I wonder how the Swiss Franc investment would be doing in today dollars?
Speaking of Uranium, what is up with Cameco (CCJ)?
Thanks to Salvatore, who provided me Ivan Shaffer's address and phone number, I spoke to the author today. I told him my interest to reproduce the book with him in updated form, in some manner. We agreed to talk again soon.
As to Harry Browne, his passing this year was sad. I met him many years ago in New Orleans at a Blanchard Conference. I used to own that book, but like many over the years, it disappeared.
I'll look at CCJ tomorrow.

There is a fantastic thread about stock promotions at the traderji web site. The Shaffer book is referenced along with one other. Here it is:
