A killer app for Google?, Wed., June 7, 2006, 6:58AM

Cara 100 component Google (yes, I broke down and admitted that this is a company that will lead the Internet forward, and the Internet is the place to be) is the subject of a Bear Stearns report today. Bear Stearns report on Google.

45 Google (GOOG) (GOOG) Financial Data

Google will eventually knock Microsoft off its perch as king of the tech hill. Why? Because its software works... Because the public obviously wants to use it, not be forced to use it; Because the company has hired the younger and hungrier workforce;. Shall I go on?

Have a read of the BS report. This is just one opinion, but when a highly respected Wall Street research firm states that Google has a potential "killer application" on its shelves, traders have to do the homework.

Ah, as the world turns, it does get better too.

An interesting look at BSC call on GOOG...Call me a skeptic, but I have to figure their "killer app" comments could be construed by someone that followed their advice on their call in JAN 2006 (and since the IPO for that matter) as self serving. Removing egg from face... This smells of screwing the "little people"...

See chart about 3/4 of the way down of this link:

Did they miss the boat?

Yeah!! another free software app to make my life more convenient. That's cool but I don't see Google is going to take down the 10,000 pound gorilla with a warchest of cash reserves bigger than many country's GDP.

We all said the same stuff about Yahoo being the next big thing back in 1999. Then Yahoo fell from the 130's to the teens in less than a year.

I agree that google is the hip place to work now but trendy things always seem to fade away (except Starbucks). Ask the Army recruiters about the days after 9/11 compared to now.

One thing is for sure, there is little loyalty in the highly skilled computer professional fields. Money talks. I suppose as long as Google stock rides high they can wave options around but it can't last forever. One thing is for sure, the competition between Google and Microsoft will benefit us little people ;->

Here's some interesting commentary on the new Google Spreadsheet (Thanks to Paul Kedrosky's Infectious Greed for the link):

I was reading several reviews of the new Google Spreadsheet app last night...the early reviews are NOT good...app not robust enough, not compared to Excel, but to other free online spreadsheet apps. It's a worthy addition to their array of products...but most likely NOT a killer app...IMHO

When Writely integrates into the Google office suite, its going to be serious competition for the MS Office revenue model. I seriously do not think that MSFT is able to fight on this new battlefield as evidenced by their ineptitude with most of their non-OS apps. Why? Corporate bloat? Too many corporate jets? Why is it that every other day a product is unveiled that will compete with Microsoft, and not the other way around? Lazy senior management with $$$ nest eggs? Kudos to Google, swift kick to the gonads to MSFT.

Worthy of Cara 100 for sure and another 20 percent frop in Apple will do the same for them.

Google is about collaberation, not taking on Microsoft. Microsoft has no real enemy here, just one in their heads.

Microsoft is chasing shadows and if they are in your top 100 should be considered replacable.

Hi Bill,

I took your advice and read the report. Sorry, but when a Gnome sell-sider such as BSC puts "killer app" in the first para I have to think that we must be near the tipping point. I have to wonder if those serious users of spreadsheets ( users that pay for the software) are going to use the Google offering where everything rests on the Google server. Would you put forecasts, sales or accounting numbers "out there" for others to see? I'm not so naive as to think that Google won't mine the data or that others won't find a way to do it.
