My favorite cartoon comes from the Barron's Book of Cartoons, Prentice-Hall (1999).

Traders buy and sell prices. They don't invest in things like companies, real estate or children.

But some of us love them and hate them, and I could never figure out how brainwashed people could get to treat stocks that way.

"Oooh, my stocks are hurting today." Isn't it like saying, "This dollar bill has a smudge on it; I'd better clean it and make it look good for the next person who holds it"?

I mean let's get real.

Watch the US dollar versus the Swiss Franc, Euro, and the Yen on Monday. If it is down, with US interest rates going up, ie, watch the 20 year bond, symbol TLT, it could be the start of the unwinding of the massive hedge fund carry trade. The foreign central banks could intervene by inflating, but it is getting harder for them to sterilize the money as the world's investors become attune to the process.
