Good, bad and ugly at CNBC, Mon, May 8, 2006, 10:49 AM
The CNBC coverage of Warren Buffett's AGM for Berkshire Hathaway was good.
The interview with a California money manager was ugly. This guy few people have ever heard of tells the CNBC interviewer that: "I've always said Gold was going to break $1,000".
When do these reporters get it? Why don't they ask for proof?
Challenge the speaker. Ask for proof. Do it off-screen.
And tell the person that your camera is not the man's marketing window. Moreover, if you don't get proof of statement within a day, tell him he is going to be barred from further interviews.
Please, the public needs this.
And as for the ‘bad' on CNBC, isn't a lot of it?
I say put Dylan Ratigan in charge, and give him a free hand to make this network into one of business and finance reporting, not b.s.

p.s., When I wrote this article, I didn't know Dylan was going to be sitting in on Morning Call. So if anyone just watched what he did on his interview of Wall Street analysts re Warren Buffett's AGM knows exactly what I mean.
The work he did at this minute re Berkshire Hathaway will be the best work done today on CNBC.
How's that for instant feedback?

You recommend giving Dylan Ratigan a free hand? We part company there Bill. Ratigan has his moments, but they are few and far between. Unfortunately, he turns people off with, what seems to be, arrogance; although I don't know him at all, so maybe arrogant is too strong a word. I have spoken to two specific guests - both of them OTM guests, and these guys don't know each other; and neither would ever go back on a show where Dylan is the host. Style is AS important as substance Bill. Dylan's not managing a blog; he's on television. He seems camera hungry; he rushes his guests when they are responding to his questions, and at times, he seems dismissive of them. Furthermore, he should look INTO the camera, so it appears he looking at his viewers. Just my thoughts. Dylan's a smart guy. He should be able to figure this out.

I have basically given up on CNBC, and just stay tuned to Bloomberg.
Dylan Ratigan- I fear one day he may be carted off to Siberia,
yelling the king has no clothes
