European telecom ushers in digital convergence, Fri., May 26, 2006, 10:05 AM

If you accept the premise that the state of the U.S. telco industry is broke, you will find this report from UBS to be a good read. It's meant for experts, but all of us can glean some nuggets from the discussion on the on-going digital convergence of video, voice and data. Download UBS report on European telecoms

My Cara 100 telco companies are Russian (2) and Chinese (2). This report, however, may get me to switch one of those for one of the European telecoms. We'll see.

As to the Cara 100, I have started putting the static data on the top nav bar of this website. This will take about a week to get all the reports done, but they ought to be updated daily. And when I obtain quality Wall Street research on these companies I will link it there, so you will have one locale to go for summarized information on companies that I believe are worthy of trading.

In time, maybe this list will become the Cara 200.

It would be helpful if Elliot Wave experts help me with the wave counts etc for the stocks of each of these companies.

In time, I want this section to provide a lot of value to Mom & Pop. You work hard for your money " you deserve it.

In the report it seems that Actel is about to go through a broad market swing. After reading previous financial reports along with reports as to their improving infrastructure, I would expect a low swing after a hit to income because of improvement expenses. Afterwards there would be a major positive swing when IPTV takes hold something within the next 2-5 years.

Anybody care to comment?

Quentusrex,

Funny you should mention Alcatel. After reading the report, I felt there was a strong bias toward Alcatel though it was given a BUY2 rating. Could it be that the report is really a subtle promotion of the stock? :) The whole video/convergence thing is held back by bandwidth limitations and the need to build out euro fiber networks to provide the necessary infrastructure. This will not happen overnight. In the meantime, while Alcatel has the most check marks as far as hardware they dont appear to lay fiber, so it's still a hold for me.

Terry, that's how I saw it too. If IPTV is to happen through fiber to the home, seems that the buys should be those companies that make fiber and those that lay fiber (which are mostly really cheap).
