TransCanada Pipelines worthy of a look, Wed., Apr. 19, 2006, 8:03 AM

Yes I like Canadian energy stocks, and yes I like pipelines. I also like nuclear. TransCanada Pipelines (NYSE, TSX: TRP) has all of the above.

I dismissed TRP from the Cara 100 because, while I like the margins, I don't care for the RoE. It's not bad, but there are others that are better.

Still, this is a solid company that came to mind when I (i) saw the UBS research report, and (ii) read the local Toronto Star newspaper articles on how much my electric bill is being pushed up this summer.

For a conservative income account, I'd wait until a market pullback, and then start a program of short-term put (option) writes to take in premium income. If you ever get "put" the stock, the cost base will be low, and the future income stream from dividends would be solid.
