Flash in the pan?, Tues., Apr. 4, 2006, 8:59 AM
Yesterday, Goldman Sachs reduced their research opinion of one of my favorite companies, SanDisk Corp (NDQ: SNDK) -- from "in-line" to "under perform". One look at the chart tells you SNDK has been under-performing since January.

Several weeks ago, I opined that SNDK would likely drop to the low 40's, where it would become a screaming buy once again " like it was in the mid 20's when I recommended it before it went to shoot out the lights just short of $80.
Here's a link announcing SNDK earnings due April 20th.
Over the past several weeks, the market has been warmed up to the idea that SanDisk is in tough selling its vaunted Flash memory chips and would have to lower prices because of "reported" over-supply.
I sense that there will be a buying opportunity if and when, as I suspect, SNDK "disappoints". So that's why you want to be tuned into the 5:00pm ET conference call from SanDisk on April 20, right after the 1Q06 results are reported.
Based on the recent share price trend, the operating results will likely be disappointing, but traders will be listening closely to the management guidance for 2Q06 and beyond.
If there is a sharp sell-off into the low 40's, or lower, it may be an excellent entry point for owning a first-rate company (in the Cara Global 100 Best). On the other hand, if SNDK doesn't "disappoint" there is nothing lost but a possible down spike that didn't materialize.
So I would be ‘locked and loaded' with SNDK in my sights for Friday, April 21st. I suggest you flesh the idea out now and get ready for that conference call.
SanDisk is no flash in the pan.

Bill, has the action in SNDK the past few days affected your outlook of breaking below $50?

Bill, I hope you're right. I was long SNDK in 2004, great fundamental story, then the pricing pressure talk started. Took it down, and kept it down for quite a while.
