E-community status, Wed., Jan. 11, 2006, 12:15 PM
The revamping of this website and blog for 2006 will follow the format I have listed below. For every line item, the articles will be archived by category or topic, as well as by date/time. For every numbered item there will be a Discussion Forum overseen by a Monitor.
The Monitor's job (and there may be more than one per item) will be to: (i) channel the best of the readers queries to me, so I can focus on what this e-community wants me to write about, (ii) post the best of the Category/Topic Comments into the Weekly Community Chat, (iii) try to draw out more community participation via comments, and (iv) send notes to me if, as and when certain comments from readers might be inappropriate.
I have selected the forum software, which I think will be effective, but I still require about 16 Monitors. General interest and/or expertise is desirable. Anybody who has been a regular Commenter would certainly make a good Monitor.
The line items marked with a triple asterisk are those where this e-community could use your support. Please send me a note, and every second day or so I'll update this list.
I expect to focus this site/blog on (i) trading prices as well as fundamental, quantitative, economic and technical indicators that help traders determine superior quality and timing to accumulate or distribute stocks, (ii) trading methodologies, and (iii) market observations.
It will be ok to get more into discussing specific stocks, but I'd like to keep the discussion linked to stocks that have a market cap of about $500 million or more, except for (i) minerals explorers, and (ii) small cap industrials. These exceptions will be monitored closely to prevent any promotion. Remember, this is an independent and objective buy-side blog.
There is still a lot of work at this end to put the BillCara2006 site into production, but I'd like you to know I have made a substantial financial commitment to making it the best I can.

Looks good Bill. Glad to be a contributor. I think you've covered a good portion of the global markets and sectors. Let me know if you need any feedback in the meantime but it seems as though you have it covered. Love the international choices :)

Bill,
I hope you'll be able to work your "GICS" overview into the site. I found your GICS breakdown along with the corresponding discussion re: swings between sectors and sub-sectors not only extremely helpful, but also very relevant. In fact, a search on GICS is actually what brought me to the site.
Perhaps an "Investor Education" section might be in order. Such a section would be abstract enough to serve as a catch all for things like GICS Overview, Indices, The Fed, and Economics... "Methods: Theory and Application" would probably fit nicely under the same umbrella. Basically, if the top-level navigation is abstract enough, then the exercise of adding additional content should be simplified... too granularly defined, and you'll run into trouble when it comes time to add something that doesn't fit the existing classification scheme.
One other thing that would be "extremely" helpful would be a "What's New" or "What's Changed" section that lists out, by date, all modifications to the site. Specifically, I'm thinking of modifications as concrete content added by you. "Discussion" is another animal and the structure of your community discussion already makes state change recognition a fairly simple exercise. However, recognizing that new content has been added to a section, e.g. new GICS subtype added to the GICS Overview area, would be simplified greatly if one could simply refer to a "What's New" section. For me, that would probably be the first thing I'd look at when browsing the site.
Anyhow, I just wanted to throw out a little food for thought. Regardless, I hope your site is successful and the experience prosperous. I've appreciated your commentary a great deal and will continue to do so.

Bill,
I e-mailed you a few weeks back about helping out with the options anaysis. I have been sidetracked but I am available.
I missed your commentary over your vacation. I appreciate you basic skepticism as I feel similiar as having been in the business for 15 years.
I read last week an analyst for BOT recommended hold on the shares. Coincidentally it was also the underwriter. I think 5 of the 8 analysts that cover it have sell ratings. Of course it does not mean any of them will be correct but it is funny how the game seems to work.
Keep up the great work! kc

Bill-
I'll second Joe Blow's comments about GICS section. I've raved on that in the past. If you gave it a more general title, the Trend & Cycle and /or the Trader Tools stuff could be tucked in there, along with your comments on Value Line, ADVFN, stckcharts, etc. If there are any newbies reading this, this stuff is Must Read in my opinion.
