The first Sunday morning in December, Sun., Dec. 4, 2005, 8:52 AM

Early on this first Sunday in December, there is peacefulness in the air, a covering a light snow on the ground. The ducks are quiet on the lake. Yes, even in the heart of a major financial centre, Toronto.

Early this morning there must have been 50,000 wild ducks fly by about a quarter-mile out. I marvel that they all have some place to go, and they are getting there without anybody stopping them. Nature is a wonderful thing.

Surrounding me today are at least three thousand Mallard ducks and a few Trumpeter Swans and Canada geese.

My favorite is a small flock of six swans, always in pairs. They'll do a fly-by in slow motion about 50 feet away. And when they take-off from the lake, all together, with the tips of their enormous wings (maybe 7 feet in span) hitting the water as they make a run of about 50 to 75 yards, the clatter sounds like a parade of Clydesdales.

Next favorite is when a flock of 50 to 100 Canadian Geese do their fly-by. Landing into a stiff north wind, they almost stop in mid air.

They do this fly-by every day, sometimes three times a day, and land on the other side of the fence about 100 feet away. One day I'll snap a picture of them flying by 15' feet from where I sit.

I feel like I'm living in a CBS Sunday Morning nature shot " not just 15 minutes from downtown Toronto.

As this world gets to be a more challenging place, it's not a bad thing to take notice of the good things nature provides.

Yep. My home office has a North facing window that looks out on my garden and bird feeders. Peace.

Bill, just a preliminary note to thank you for your educational, daily comments and what appears to be a uniquely honest assessment of the market direction. Many people can benefit from your frank observations on the behaviour of those who are less than ethical in the financial markets. An excellent article on this can be found at:
http://www.bankstocks.com/article.asp?type=&id=9880817.

I am new to the site, and wondered if/when the Cara 100 is going to be posted (hope I didnt miss how to get to it).

Thanks again, and keep up the great work.

Student-
Bill has promised to post it when the equity markets correct to reasonable valuations and buying opportunities are present for his readers to take advantage. Read however Bill's 1Q Review under "The Big Picture" for advance notice of some securities he likes in each sector.
