Let's have some fun with flash (SFUN). Tues., Nov. 22, 2005, 9:23 AM
Jerry from Deerfield Beach (a former hang-out of mine) sent me a note re SanDisk (NDQ: SNDK). It's about Saifun Semiconductor (NDQ: SFUN). I don't know about the company but I think I'll look into it.
Hi Bill; I am the person who wrote you after Hurricane Katrina about the destruction of some Hydrogen plants (if you remember). I am writing to you about Sandisk which I like as a company, however you ought to be cautioned about "left field"! There is a new Israeli company that just went public that bears watching. Saifun Semiconductor, symbol: SFUN. They have a technology that can pack double the memory on the same size chip as SNDK. 4 Bits instead of 2. I know very little about them but what I read on Yahoo Finance. They are licensing the technology to others and may affect Sandisk's bottom line. I own none of either stocks and have no interest in them as I am merely a bystander that understands that you are in Canada and might just miss what's going on here. (Forgive my presumptions)."
Jerry, you are forgiven. Actually, I miss a lot about what goes on there (Deerfield Beach), and in two months I'm going to miss it even more. :-)
About Some Fun " I mean SFUN " the company has a mighty big market cap ($1 billion) for (so far) mighty big losses and negative cash flow, and tiny revenues. Still, it could be a special situation", and, just for you Jerry, I think we'll keep our eye on it.
Here is the ADVFN financial data, including the latest financial summaries for Saifun Semiconductor.

So, apparently the stock just started trading two weeks ago. We'll follow Saifun Semiconductor (NDQ: SFUN) with an interactive chart (15-minutes delayed data).
Here is the Hoovers data on SFUN. You can easily see that 2004 sales were $32 million and the loss was $38 million. Well it's a start.
Here is the Yahoo Finance file on SFUN.
Not to put too fine a point on it, but these research services are outstanding. In particular, I love the presentation from Yahoo. I think Yahoo management really are doing an outstanding job. And together with Microsoft, and EBAY, I think Yahoo is going to put up a very strong competition to Google. Moreover, in my view, the quality of management at these Google competitors is proven. I have yet to see how Google management can handle success.
But that's not a story about Some Fun.

Hi Bill,
Great blog. FYI -- SFUN is now highly profitable. Take a look at this research that I came across from a friend of mine.

Barron's had an article on this which was previously posted.
Comments
SNDK & LEXR are great companies, but face a lot of competition while uses for flash memory continue to expand. Barron's had an interesting article in the Technology Week section (November 7, 2005) mentioning an Israeli company SFUN that has a new technology for flash memory with twice the capacity of SNDK. An IPO debuted last week for SFUN and it jumped. Weakness in SNDK last week may be related to SFUN's technology and IPO.
