Example of why I blog, Wed., Nov. 30, 2005, 7:55 AM

I received the following (unedited) letter this morning in reply to mail I had answered last evening. It shows why I blog, and why the blogosphere is so important.

Bill:
Thank you very much for your detailed explanation. As your blog, your email is very helpful. I knew your email was down today, so I did not expect your response so soon. Thanks again for your reply.

Your blog helps me at least in two ways. First, I try to look at the market in a more systematic way. Although I understood that information in capital market is correlated to each other, but I never really knew how to interpret them in a realistic manner before I started to learn from you. I am still not good at doing that, but it is a good place to start.

The first book about modern investment theory I read was A Random Walk Down Wall Street, and the second book was the biography of Warren Buffett. Honestly I did not understand them very well by then, when I was in Beijing (I believe I do not either by now), but philosophy those books promoted was planted in my mind. Investment is good, trading is bad. Being an investor is good, being a trader/speculator is bad, etc. The first impression was so hard to change. Even today, I still have psychological difficulty to take profit, because that would make me a trader, not "an investor". Your blog is a great help for me to change my view toward a more realistic stance. That is the second way in which your blog is helping me.

Internet is such a great invention that change how people communicate. Without it, I may never be able to talk directly to a person like you. I have many questions I want to ask. But at this time, I think I'd better save your time for others.

Again, many thanks for what you have done. Actually I already recommended your blog to every one I know who is interested in investment and trading. I think they will, sooner or later, realize what you are doing for us.

Best regard
Sincerely
Yao
