Research is motionless, Fri., Oct. 7, 2005, 11:38 AM

I know somebody who is going to be a happy camper. You remember that Kevin O'Leary guy, the one who shorted Research in Motion (NDQ: RIMM)?

A trial judge has decided the Company has lost its case on the Blackberry technology patents. The stock went down almost "10 pct before being halted.

Oh, to have been short this one!

O'Leary was against RIMM for another reason, actually. He said he is worried that the Company is running into market competition. This court case is a different animal. This one is whether RIMM will have to enter a new (and costlier licensing deal) or else be prohibited from selling, manufacturing or importing the hugely popular Blackberry devices into the U.S.

This is a big deal. The stock is halted.

Hi Bill, would it be a relatively low risk play to bet on PALM on this RIMM news? PALM has some strength today (volume), I would guess it's because of the RIMM news - it has been under pressure as of late. - regards - sergio
