International indices down sharply overnight, Wed., Oct. 5, 2005, 7:06 AM

The East Asian/Pacific equity markets are closed now, but the markets there were very weak: Australia down "2.1 pct, Hong Kong down "1.4 pct, India down "0.9 pct, Japan down "0.4 pct and South Korea down -1.2 pct.

European equity markets are still in mid-session as I write, but there is widespread weakness there too: France down "0.9 pct, Germany down "1.0 pct, Italy down "1.1 pct, and UK down "1.0 pct.

There is no doubt that the sudden 100-point collapse yesterday in the Dow 30 index was duly noted around the world. Traders are nervous. They are now sleeping with one eye open on the other side of the world.
