The ultimate tribute in business, Mon., September 12, 2005, 6:49 PM

Last week I commented that I always had thought highly of Lew Platt, the former non-executive chairman of Boeing. Previously he had worked 33 years for Hewlett-Packard, becoming CEO and then chairman, replacing David Packard. After splitting HP into HP and Agilent Technologies, he stepped down and was replaced by Carly Fiorina.

I read today a tribute to Mr. Platt in the obituaries that I think all of us should aspire to.

Ray Lane, former CEO of Oracle Corp, said: He had integrity, more integrity than almost anyone I know. Whatever he told you, you could take to the bank."
