Sizing up billcara.com, Thurs., Sept. 22, 2005, 10:18 AM
To say that my web stat growth is like Google would be to sell me short. My visitor numbers were up +31.8 pct M/M August over July, and so far are up +42.3 pct September over August.
It's hard for me to explain why. I have never advertised. I just do what I do, making sure that I do it when I have time, and that I always have fun doing it.
Starting tomorrow I will be talking to a couple professional sales people about the possibility of running a few banner ads on these pages (no pop ups). If it looks like a reasonable deal, that's what I'm going to do.
If you would care to send me privately (bill@billcara.com) a sentence or two (in confidence) of why you think this blog is quickly growing readership, I'd like to create a page or two that I can forward to potential advertisers.
When I had a reader of Trader Wizard do a survey for me a year ago, I found the many responses helpful to making changes in the presentation. One of those changes was the name of the blog, and another the Week in Review. I also added the GICS tabs. Unfortunately, personal matters and business matters have kept me from updating the GICS this quarter, or following up yet on the Week in Focus articles like I had planned.
But, I'll get there. I need an admin assistant, and these banner ads might work out to cover that cost so I can keep this blog free.
So, if you would, please tell me, as objectively and briefly as you can, what value you find in this blog that keeps you coming back. That would be very helpful to me. Thanks.
One thing is I try to be current. I have to wonder how supposedly world-leading news organizations like Reuters get away with "news" like the one that follows that they time-stamped and sent to me at 8:30am today.
Rita strengthens over Florida Keys
"MIAMI (Reuters) - Rapidly strengthening Hurricane Rita lashed the low-lying islands of the Florida Keys with squalls on Tuesday and Gulf Coast communities to the west braced for a possible encore to devastating Hurricane Katrina. "
What I think happens at times is that mass media needs to fill its pages regardless of timeliness, relevance or materiality of that content. So they package up items they refer to as "Big news you should be aware of."
While this kind of thing might happen in my case, as least there is no attempt by me to do so unless I clearly label it "Week in Review".
