Let bygones be bygones, Fri., September 16, 2005, 4:46 PM
It wasn't so long ago that AOL was pretty mad at Microsoft for almost destroying Netscape. But all's fair in love and war. In time even the bitterest of enemies get back together again.
This week the word came out that Microsoft and AOL are in some heavy-breathing sessions to find ways of defending their turf from those invaders of Middle Earth called Google and Yahoo.
As they say, You and I have had our disagreements; let's let bygones be bygones."
But, apparently traders are not so happy with the potential for any such union. MSFT today " quadruple witching day -- traded 150 million shares, mostly down, lost somewhere in the depths of the great forest of Fangorn.
One look at the chart comparing MSFT (in blue) to the Mighty Dow, and readers would know that I had been expecting MSFT and the Dow to be, let's say, more in sync.

It would be nice to figure out what really happens on quadruple witching days, and maybe even nicer to know in advance the strategies Microsoft has lined up for its upcoming war against Google.
