Other foreign wireless telcos, Wed., August 10, 2005, 8:50 AM

Further to my last piece on foreign telco companies, I thought I'd point out how I alerted you to two Russian operators I also put into the Cara Global Best 100 Companies list from this GICS Sector 50 group. In fact, the two from China and these two from Russia are the only four telco's I selected for the Global Best 100 Companies list.

Here is a link to the March 14 article. Note the names at the bottom.

I can't find the follow up article, which I planned to do in detail as I had done for the two China mobility firms. Maybe I didn't do one. That was a pretty turbulent time personally, as you know.

I also wrote about the two U.S. telco giants, recommending put writes, Feb 1, 2005, both of which gave you an infinite profit, given your short puts expired worthless.

I was not so hot on the revenue and earnings growth prospects for the American carriers, however, which is why they never made my Best 100 Companies list.

Anyway, I'm happy with the performance of my four foreign picks, and with the two trades recommended on the U.S. telco stocks.

Having said that, you know that market timing is crucial to making trading profits. You have to have a sense of when to go long or short, or also when to write puts (i.e. in sideways or rising markets).
