Is S. Korea a good bet today? Tues., August 16, 2005, 11:13 AM
I am reluctant to recommend buying into any Asia market today because I think they are over-priced and will soon correct. You see, governments seem to be saying to one another, I think your bubble will pop before mine," and I don't want to play that game.
This is not a case of Don Ho's Tiny Bubbles" any longer. When one pops, they'll all pop. Real estate in Shanghai is just as pricey as San Diego, Santa Ana, San Jose, San Francisco, or Sacramento. Maybe more so.
So I had to think about this letter from a new reader in San Diego.
Hello dear Bill, I have recently discovered your blog site and I admire you very much for sharing your knowledge.
Can you kindly tell me what are the best ways to invest in S. Korea and what are your top choices for investing in Asia.
Regards, Ashok"
With the advice to be ultra cautious, here are the three major Korea Funds available to Americans, including those in San Diego.
That is a local joke; but I digress.
Here are the Weekly data charts of the Korea stocks I follow. Obviously, the Korea ETF, which trades on the AMEX under the ticker symbol EWY is the safest bet. Right now, though, I think it is over-priced.

Here are the Daily data charts for the Korea stocks, except for the banks, which I would not even bother to look at today, as they are extremely over-priced.

Actually, I'm selling Korea today. I was just putting together the ad. ;-)
This vehicle has a 2.2L DOHC MPFI engine and an automatic transmission. It is fully loaded, includes Leather Interior, AM/FM Stereo CD, ABS Anti-lock Brakes (4-Wheel), Dual Air Bags, Alloy Wheels, Bucket Seats, Heated Seats, Air Conditioning, Centre Armrest and Console, Armrest Storage, Tilt Wheel, Cruise Control, Intermittent Wipers, Rear Defrost, Power Door Locks, Power Seats, Power Windows, Power Mirrors, Power Moonroof, Rear Shoulder Harness, Tinted Glass, Trip Odometer, Heated Exterior Driver Mirror, Heated Exterior Passenger Mirror, Anti Theft/security System, Clock, and Fog/Driving Lamps. A like-new import sedan. Multi photos. Have two cars, need one.
I decided to keep the North American car. But that's another story. ;-)

Bill:
I appreciate your comments every morning!
With regards to your recent comments on real estate, do you think that there are some local areas which may be immune from market corrections?
I am going out to Victoria B.C. this month in search of a condo in what appears to be a fairly hot market. I would appreciate any comment you might have for this Canuck.
Regards
G
