My former good life, Wed., June 22, 2005, 4:59 PM

There were times in my life when I used to feel pretty good about life. Not that long ago really. So just for fun, I thought I'd show you Bill Cara & Friends in Ft Lauderdale, aboard my former boat, appropriately named Dream Merchant.

I'm the fellow with the wine bottle. I always did like that Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

Then there is Ralph, the blond with the mustache, who was the chairman of the cruising committee at the Lauderdale Yacht club back in those days. Ralph took care of my boat when I was away, moving it back and forth from LYC to Bahia Mar Resort, and over to Bahamas for the minimum two weeks a year it had to be out of the USA. That's when we sailed DM over to the Bimini Big Game Club in Bahamas, hanging at a Hemmingway haunt, the Compleat Angler.

And a young friend who was starting linebacker for the number-one rated college team that year.

There is also Peter who was a former GE head office staffer who worked in the trenches directly with Jeff Immelt. Peter took these photos and decided to send them to me, I guess, to cheer me up. Now I'm left wondering, what happened in the interim!

He wouldn't allow me to show his own photo here, and now I know why.

Peter came aboard the boat wearing a business suit, shirt and tie, leather shoes, hard luggage, and all. Then when I arranged for my friends to take the two of us deep sea fishing, I was politely asked, following our return to the dock, to not have him back. It seems that a sunscreen with a SPF100 rating gums up the expensive gear. I don't think Peter had seen the sun.

And, for Peter's sake, I thought I'd show the picture Peter took of my friend Marcia, who owned the fishing boat. Peter now has a few stories to tell his friends.

But there is no denying Peter had a good trip. We had gone to visit my office in Dallas, and stopped over in New Orleans on the way back to Lauderdale. He was kind enough to send me the evidence.

Still, it's good to remember the good times.

Nice pix, Bill... you have lived well! I grew up in Ft Lauderdale... loved it.

Here is a cool investing idea:

Rydex Strengthening Dollar (RYSBX) and Rydex Weakening Dollar (RYWBX).

BTW, I sent you the keywords from May.
