How much are you worth?

Are You Worth a Tonne?

One day I dropped into the office of a friend who is a well-known gold analyst on Bay Street. His question of the day was, "Are you worth a tonne?"

My answer, not knowing what he was asking, was: "Maybe, but I feel like I weigh that much at times."

The weight of gold is expressed in troy ounces rather than the ordinary avoirdupois ounce. One avoirdupois ounce equals 0.911 troy ounces.

So if you weigh 200 pounds like me (oh, I wish), you'd be worth $1,265,554 your weight in gold. And if you were worth a tonne, you'd be worth $13,953,534;at this morning's price.

We should all be worth a tonne.
