I wasn't planning to blog today, but I also hadn't planned to return to the big city late last evening either. After getting to and leaving my afternoon business meeting an hour late and in poor humor, I drove 90 minutes to my parent's "Lodge" whereupon I was refused entry. I should have called first because earlier in the week I had been informed there had been an Influenza outbreak there.
But Dad said I could get a mask at the front desk. So when I arrived, I found exactly zero cars parked in any lot, and as this is an almost 300-bed facility, I figured out things in advance, which the front desk confirmed. No visitors for another eight days. I left my package and turned around to Toronto because why bother driving a further 30 minutes to the country house only to turn around in the morning to the city.
I thought about the web traffic stats, and now I'm not so concerned. One reader said that with the market down for the month, most traders have their head in the sand, which is a good analogy given that, in a rising market, we on the buy-side have to endure a sand storm of disinformation anyway. And another reader asked me to look into better image capture/upload software, suggesting one I already have on my desktop, but hadn't been using. Then there was the comment about the MT comment facility, but it appears to be working. Finally, Mark Anderson (Tickerhost), who is the new web host master, said that the stats are actually pretty good considering I have not had a single spam attack in six weeks and TW had been getting about one every 6 minutes. So, all in all, I'm pleased.
Yesterday I saw a bit of the future. John Cowie, who runs a small Toronto web design shop (seven creative staff), showed me a proprietary software he created recently at University. It's called FreshCast and (while I won't attempt the details) it integrates all aspects of digital media into a single website " audio and video clips, mp3, film, live TV, as well as all the rest. Some of the world's biggest corporations have expressed interest because it really is leading edge stuff. John is 27 and I've known him for 21 years, after my family moved from a rural home near Peterborough back to Toronto. John and my son Will became best buds, and still are. So it's great to see what young people can do with their lives. John has a few doors open to him in Ottawa now because a year ago he took a couple dozen World War II veterans back to 60th reunion of the Normandy Invasion (D Day) and filmed and produced a documentary. He's also written a book on multimedia. These links (1) and (2) say pretty much all I could write about him at this point.

Anybody with a vision can see what I want John to do for the Trader Wizard web site that is presently doing nothing (other than referring readers to me). In a couple of months, it'll be a premium site that I hope will make a dent to the sell-side of financial services by enabling securities traders anywhere to easily manage their own capital. But the BillCara.com website and blog will always remain free and devoid of advertising, and it will continue to improve as I get more time to write content, and get the help from my programmed trading models that are presently in development.
Finally, as to my dizziness, I have a pre-scheduled complete annual medical check-up February 15. I've had this vertigo problem about three times in my life. Once I sailed my boat offshore from Ponce Inlet (Daytona Beach) to Port Everglades (Ft. Lauderdale) alone and, after 40+ hours on the open ocean " in a shipping lane no less -- without sleep, I got sick so I went to the hotel. When I got into the hotel room at Bahia Mar, the room was rolling so much that my head started banging on the headboard and I felt like a woodpecker. I even called down to the front desk to ask if there was an earthquake underway. Earthquake in Florida? Talk about denial!
It's usually just a middle ear infection brought on during periods of stress. In recent days, I have been pushing too hard to get the top banner section of the web site done, I guess. And the funny thing is the only stress I have is my knowing this website and blog is going to look a lot better " and be a lot more helpful to people -- after it gets finished.
So maybe I'll get the task finished a couple days later.

Hi ya Bill...
Say...about the graphics posted in the bit titled "Week #4-2005-01-29 In Review", there's something I noticed and thought I'd bring to your attention.
The images are "crunched" and look bad because the HTML "size" tags don't match the actual image size(s). In digging through your site's source code, I noticed this for the image "029ba.gif" (ETF images(s)):
" src="http://www.billcara.com/archives/029ba.gif" width="450" height="450"
Notice that the HTML is setting the width/height to 450, but the image itself is actually 396 x 499. The HTML height/width constrains are deforming your images and making them appear worse than what they are (compressing the width and stretching the height in this case).
This is the case for many of the images in that particular post (Week #4-2005-01-29 In Review). If you go back and edit that post and remove all the HTML height/width references, the image quality will vastly improve.
Something else you might want to consider: the way you capture your images is important, but more importantly is adding a bit of "post processing" before you post the images. Just as a suggestion, try adding a bit of "sharpening" to the images before you save them to your hard drive.
Since a lot of the images you post have small numbers and lines, a bit of sharpening will "pop" the smaller elements.
My reading of your site slowed down only because the font size that you use for your new site is small and hard on my eyes, but I'm not whining...just commenting.
Too many years as a computer animator and graphics designer blew out my eyes. Anyway...hope the thoughts on your images help you.
Cheers!
^_^
